CURRENT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
There will be a Church Council Meeting at 3:30 on August 18 in the Fellowship Hall. All Council members should plan to attend. Members of the congregation are also welcome and encouraged to observe this meeting as well.
Community Cares has a full schedule of events this Fall. Check the poster in the narthex for updates. Also, please list and share our Facebook page which provides up-to-date information – CommunityCares@communitycaresnsumc. In Beth Bradford’s last class, “Let Your Creativity Bloom – Painting Sunflowers”, we left our impressions behind and made broad strokes with our own independent style. Again, thank you Beth!
The Annual Quilt Drawing will be on August 11 this year instead of November. From any UMW member you may purchase for a donation of $1 per ticket (or 6 for $5). The full sized quilt is stitched in a Nine Patch Checkerboard pattern. Proceeds go to fund mission projects.
Remember that August 11 is the 98th All Day Sing. There will be no early service, but there will be Sunday school classes. There will be some special singing during the 11 am service with a Potluck Lunch at noon. Then come back to the sanctuary for more singing afterward. Tell H.A. McKaig or Sharon Bradford if you have a special song you want to present to our worship of the Lord. Bring your friends!
Pillars of Faith Sermon Series – Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This series begins with the the Heros Hall of Fame in Hebrews 11 as an introduction to the “pillars of faith” we can all follow – not just those individuals but the markers of faith we can all follow as we strive to live with such utter trust in God. In Hebrews and in Jesus’ teaching in the Gospel of Luke, we can learn how faith empowers us to see the unseen, boldly seek God in the face of opposition, and trust God to accomplish things we can only imagine…
August 11: “How Faith Acts” – Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16. / August 18: “The Eyes of Faith” – Hebrews 11:29, 12:2, and Luke 12:49-56. / August 25: “Faith In the Face of Opposition” – Luke 13:10-17 / September 1: “Faith Enough To Wait” – Luke 14:1, 7-14.
